Last week I found an amazing website called Selfless Portraits. It encourages users to “Join strangers across the world drawing each other’s Facebook profile pictures.” Wordy, yes, but incredibly fun. Here are my first three submissions.

I put together this map to show you that a decent amount of of San Francisco’s 49 square miles is not actual land. If “the big one” hits, I hope you’re inland because the green and brown areas are going straight into the bay. But anyway… I hope you like the map.

Behold, my latest costume: A monster mask! It was created using a seat cushion, three Sharpie markers and black duct tape. It’s not great and I can’t really hear while wearing it, but it’ll do just fine in my office costume contest.

Geocaching Signature Item

Behold, my brand new geocaching signature item! Last weekend I got to leave a few of these “coins” in geocaches around Lake Tahoe. It felt great to finally have an official leave-behind.

Limited print run of 1,000 with each coin individually numbered with a fine-point Sharpie

Constructed of durable weatherproof plastic but also thin enough to bend and fit inside bison tubes and other small geocaches

2”x2” size allows it to fit in most geocaches, including an Altoids tin, a very common container

A fun takeaway item for geocachers like myself, who like collecting these signature cards

The other day I stopped by Fantastico, a bizarre San Francisco store that sells nothing but synthetic flowers and party supplies. While perusing the aisles, I found several bags of small plastic babies that, I assume, were intended for baby showers. But I wanted them for a different reason: To make really creepy earrings.

DIY Duct Tape Wallet

A few weeks ago I lost my blue wallet while playing mini golf in the East Bay. I looked for a replacement but came up short. I had only one other option: Buy a roll of blue Duct tape and handcraft a custom wallet. Anyway, here it is.

I decided to create a new version of my motivation print by using 18”x24” cardboard paper, letter stencils and black sharpie. It’s a little cleaner than the previous one and easier to reproduce. I think I like the simplicity of this version better. Thoughts?

San Francisco RV Scene

Has anyone else noticed the abundance of recreational vehicles parked at the bottom of Potrero Hill? I have and decided it was finally time to document them. After only ten minutes of meandering the area, I had snapped a dozen photos of motor homes. I think I might buy an RV and join this booming housing development.

Kickstarter Project Design

I recently created a few images for a friend’s Kickstarter project, which was a zombie movie entitled I Am Alone. Unfortunately, the project was unsuccessful (I blame it on the ambitious goal amount) but they’re going to give it another try in a few months. More design pieces to come then. I made a motivational poster to hang above my computer. It speaks of two obvious keys to success: Lifting weights and making things. Hence the phrase, get huge and push content. It’s kind of like “sound body, sound mind”, right?

500 Days in San Francisco

I’ve lived in San Francisco for 500 days now. It has been a wild ride, to say the least. I’ve accomplished a ton, but there is still so much to do. Here is my chalkboard, which keeps me in line. Everything crossed out is done and the rest is pending. Overwhelming? Yes. Possible? Definitely.

Official Geocaching Coin

I’ve been geocaching for nearly ten years under the pseudonym Duck Muscle, yet I’ve never left any sort of branded item in the boxes I’ve found. Many seasoned geocachers leave wooden nickels or business cards with their handles, slogans, home location, etc. I thought it would be fun to borrow this idea and design a fancy limited edition coin as my official leave-behind. Below is my initial design. What do you think?

Making Earrings On The Weekend

My Etsy store, Crab Legs USA, sells shrunken potato chip bag earrings and, for some odd reason, people keep buying them. Fortunately/unfortunately, I’m running low on inventory, so it’s time to make more. Here is a picture of my kitchen counter from last weekend. If sales pick up, it’s only going to get messier.
