Selfless Portraits
Last week I found an amazing website called Selfless Portraits. It encourages users to “Join strangers across the world drawing each other’s Facebook profile pictures.” Wordy, yes, but incredibly fun. Here are my first three submissions.

The Soil Of San Francisco
I put together this map to show you that a decent amount of of San Francisco’s 49 square miles is not actual land. If “the big one” hits, I hope you’re inland because the green and brown areas are going straight into the bay. But anyway… I hope you like the map.

Remember To Stretch
This small artwork (if you even want to call it art) goes out to all of my runner friends. Cursive black sharpie on heavy stock 5x7 paper. That’s it.

Happy Halloween
Behold, my latest costume: A monster mask! It was created using a seat cushion, three Sharpie markers and black duct tape. It’s not great and I can’t really hear while wearing it, but it’ll do just fine in my office costume contest.

Geocaching Signature Item
Behold, my brand new geocaching signature item! Last weekend I got to leave a few of these “coins” in geocaches around Lake Tahoe. It felt great to finally have an official leave-behind. Limited print run of 1,000 with each coin individually numbered with a fine-point Sharpie Constructed of durable weatherproof plastic but also thin enough to bend and fit inside bison tubes...

Mini Creepy Naked Baby Dangle Earrings
The other day I stopped by Fantastico, a bizarre San Francisco store that sells nothing but synthetic flowers and party supplies. While perusing the aisles, I found several bags of small plastic babies that, I assume, were intended for baby showers. But I wanted them for a different reason: To make really creepy earrings. DIY Duct Tape Wallet
A few weeks ago I lost my blue wallet while playing mini golf in the East Bay. I looked for a replacement but came up short. I had only one other option: Buy a roll of blue Duct tape and handcraft a custom wallet. Anyway, here it is.

Pocket Factory Logo Concepts
Here are a few mocks of a logo that I’m currently designing. The project details are top secret at the moment, so I can’t say much else. The logo itself is very literal: A pocket with factory smoke stacks and smoke. Does it work? If so, which one is best?

"Get Huge And Push Content" Poster
I decided to create a new version of my motivation print by using 18”x24” cardboard paper, letter stencils and black sharpie. It’s a little cleaner than the previous one and easier to reproduce. I think I like the simplicity of this version better. Thoughts?

San Francisco RV Scene
Has anyone else noticed the abundance of recreational vehicles parked at the bottom of Potrero Hill? I have and decided it was finally time to document them. After only ten minutes of meandering the area, I had snapped a dozen photos of motor homes. I think I might buy an RV and join this booming housing development.

Kickstarter Project Design
I recently created a few images for a friend’s Kickstarter project, which was a zombie movie entitled I Am Alone. Unfortunately, the project was unsuccessful (I blame it on the ambitious goal amount) but they’re going to give it another try in a few months. More design pieces to come then. For now, check these out. Main image on the Kickstarter project page Full poster for the...

Motivation
I made a motivational poster to hang above my computer. It speaks of two obvious keys to success: Lifting weights and making things. Hence the phrase, get huge and push content. It’s kind of like “sound body, sound mind”, right?

500 Days in San Francisco
I’ve lived in San Francisco for 500 days now. It has been a wild ride, to say the least. I’ve accomplished a ton, but there is still so much to do. Here is my chalkboard, which keeps me in line. Everything crossed out is done and the rest is pending. Overwhelming? Yes. Possible? Definitely.

Official Geocaching Coin
I’ve been geocaching for nearly ten years under the pseudonym Duck Muscle, yet I’ve never left any sort of branded item in the boxes I’ve found. Many seasoned geocachers leave wooden nickels or business cards with their handles, slogans, home location, etc. I thought it would be fun to borrow this idea and design a fancy limited edition coin as my official leave-behind. Below is...

Making Earrings On The Weekend
My Etsy store, Crab Legs USA, sells shrunken potato chip bag earrings and, for some odd reason, people keep buying them. Fortunately/unfortunately, I’m running low on inventory, so it’s time to make more. Here is a picture of my kitchen counter from last weekend. If sales pick up, it’s only going to get messier.

Acrylic Rotisserie Chicken
San Francisco’s Club Six hosts a So You Think You Can Paint? party every Thursday night in which attendees are encouraged to paint freely on black canvases. While I’m not well-trained in acrylics, I took a stab at it with a steamy rotisserie chicken painting. About ten minutes after I finished my masterpiece, another artist added to it, showing the chicken popping out of a...

Spooky Yosemite
When I Google Image search “Yosemite Valley”, I see a lot of beautiful, sunny and green images of America’s famous national park. However, when I visited last weekend, it was incredibly dreary and downright spooky. The pictures below are from my hike to the top of Yosemite Falls. The third image (with crow) is from a lookout point at the very top.

Cat Falling Silhouettes
Just as the title suggests, I drew three silhouettes of a cat falling. I used Sharpie markers and a huge piece of cardboard paper that I found at Costco. The cashier didn’t even think twice about giving it away for free. Little did he know that I would create something magical with it. Here are a few photos of the process.

Bike Creature Drawing
I finally got around to finishing a drawing that had been brewing in my mind for months. It’s a big one and it’s full color, which is a bit scary and unusual for me. Anyway, I documented the whole process. Here are a few pictures that I took along the way. Blank canvas. A nice off-white color but big and intimidating. Messy pencil sketches. My uncle recently gave me his old 35mm camera. It’s a good one, so I decided to test it out on the golf course. The results, as you can see, were not that good but not that bad. This will definitely take some practice. Check out the high res photos and so much more on my new picture blog here.

Boondoggler Kit
I finally put together a small gift to thank my old boss for helping me get a job in San Francisco. Rather than send a traditional card, I put together a kit, which included gift certificates to his favorite Haight Street spots as well as a fantastic mix CD. Everything was placed in an envelope with this one-sheeter.

People Watching Icons
A rough collection of icons for my upcoming people watching iOS app. Each icon represents a “feature” potentially found at a listed watch location. For example, New York’s Bryant Park usually has an abundance of pigeons and buskers, so the location page will include these icons. Anyway, below are the initial fifteen that I’ve created. Let me know what you think.

You Like That! T-Shirt
A t-shirt to honor my good friend’s terrible catch phrase, which we have used in excess since the words first came out of his mouth years ago. The saying is often used when you do something out of the ordinary and get a negative reaction from the people around you. By saying “you like that”, you compensate for your absurdity. Does it make sense now? Probably not.

Granny Powers Cartoon
I’ve discovered that boring business meetings can sometimes lead to fascinating personal thoughts. It’s very easy to let my mind wander and begin doodling. Below is just one sketch from an extremely long and stale meeting. I’m not exactly sure why I chose to draw and write this, so I’ll leave it up to you to interpret.

Don't Mind Me
I’ve been in San Francisco for nearly six months yet I still haven’t solidified a place to live. So, in honor of my loose-footedness, I created this note to hang on my door. Yes, I know it’s poorly done but it’s thoughtful: Cardboard and a black Sharpee are a rambling man’s favorite tools.

Werewolf & Rabbit Drawing
A friend asked me to do a drawing for his living room. We brainstormed some ideas and came up with an interesting concept: A werewolf serving dinner to a rabbit. I used oil pencil and sharpie to construct this scenario as accurately as possible. Overall, I think it turned out okay. See below.

A CLOSER LOOK: HALLOWEEN COSTUMES
While cleaning my apartment, I found three costumes that I had created over the years, most likely for Halloween but I’m not entirely sure. It’s important to note that each costume’s base is a Home Depot painter’s overalls. It’s a cheap canvas that’s uncomfortably warm once painted. The official names of these characters are Space Man, Lizard Man and Bed Bug...

FROM THE ARCHIVE: POGS
While sifting through a box of junk at my parent’s place in Baltimore, I found my coveted pog collection. Mixed in with the hundreds of cardboard circles were my very own homemade pogs. A little background: In the height of the craze, I would make and sell these custom made pogs. Of course, now I’m left with only the rejects and unsellables. Oh well. I really wish I still had the...
